Proofreaders are born, not created. If you are a proofreader, you know it.
You find things wrong on menus. You seethe when you find silly typographical errors in the Wall Street Journal or your favorite newspaper. You cringe when news anchorman Tom Brokaw says something like "The president met with several reporters and I this morning." (He really said that!) You gasp when a presidential candidate says, "If you want to see my running mate and I in the White House, be sure to register!" You're the wiseguy in the Star Wars audience who yells, "Look right!" just before the stormtrooper accidentally bumps his head on the plastic spaceship wall. You saw Gone With The Wind (yes, that's how the movie title is capped by the studio) and you couldn't help spotting the electrical cord going to the 'oil' lamp in the scene in which Ashley Wilkes is being carried into the back room to receive medical attention after the vigilante raid on Decatur Road.
Perhaps you're even one of us!
We're looking for excellent copy editors. The ones who are invited to join our model will have language and editing skills second to none, and will have proven so by acing our battery of tests. They'll have high-speed Internet access, a modern version of Microsoft Word, expertise using Word's change-tracking tools, and clear understanding of when to make changes in a customer's document and when to leave words as they are. Editors who also have Adobe Acrobat (not just the free Reader) will be all the more welcome, as a good deal of the work we do involves PDF documents.
We prefer to pay editors outside the U.S. via PayPal, but if that cannot be arranged, don't let it be a roadblock.
We're open and proofreading documents twenty-four hours a day, so some of the people we hope to attract in the coming weeks are in Australian, Indian, or European time zones. Wherever you are, if you're really good, please consider joining our model. We bring the work directly to you, and you pick and choose from among the jobs we offer. Working in your bathrobe and slippers might not be too bad after all!
Please click here to register for and download the preliminary test.
